The Bury’s are planning their travels again, but no cruise ship this time! We are going on the road for 28 days in our newly converted mini bus that John has turned into a motor home. The hope is that we will travel from the north east of Scotland to New Haven in the south of England and get the ferry across to France. This blog will follow our travels and see where we end up.
We caught the bus to St Malo and spent a few hours walking the ramparts and drinking coffee in the sun. (21 degrees). We were armed with a French bus timetable with the colour of route and bus number. Now it wouldn’t be a holiday if something didn’t go quite as planned what could go wrong? The return bus found and off we went……….and went……and went in the wrong direction! So a nice trip round the city and back to the bus station. Showing the bus driver the French bus timetable with the stop marked got a shrug. We stayed on the bus and well would you believe it then took off in the right direction to our destination. So the French bus driver didn’t understand French or the timetable on his route. 🤔. It has been over 20 years since we have been here and we enjoyed our day bus tour included 🤣😎. Moving on tomorrow. No photos today they are on my camera not phone,
A couple of hours south to St Malo. All the villages and towns has pictures of British hero’s lost during DDay on lampposts and windows. It was lovely and heart felt. We are in an aire with all motorhome services, wifi and big pitches at €10 an night! Walked 15 minutes to the sculptures by the sea all done by one man Late 1800s early 1900s
We spent yesterday in Dieppe, think I’ve said it before France appears to take a day off on Mondays. However we slept for about 12 hours so nice and refreshed to get on with our holiday. A few hours down the coast to Cabourg to campsite Oasis. Our pitch overlooks the Normandy beach where an uncle aged 21 fell on the 6th June 1944 to give us freedom. The 2 bears and the gnome so far have been well behaved but, we will see how long for. The sun is hot and we are off to have a pina colada. Happy holidays
1st night on route to the ferry. Dinner guests arrived as dinner was being served . Finchley Abbey campsite with a view of the Abbey and a lovely river walk. Early start tomorrow to get to the South of England.
2 weeks and 4 days until we are at long last heading to Europe again. Last night we went to Huntly castle campsite to check everything was ready for our trip. Nice campsite but, 2 hours after we arrived their grass cutter sent 2 large stones at our drivers side window 😭. A trip into Aberdeen and we are all sorted. Now to make my lists and pack the Moho ready for our Europe Adventure.
3 nights away in the MoHo to this MMC site. We used our own onboard facilities do can’t comment on their shower/toilet blocks. We bought an eco shower 🚿 head which works great and would recommend. Pressure great and doesn’t use excessive amount of water.
Stonehaven has a few takeaways including a chip shop very near the site. We didn’t use it due to John being Celiac and not worth the risk of contamination. However lots from the site used it and they used social distancing well with a member of staff directing people.
A poor duck 🦆 got trapped in the solar panels on the toilet block but the RSPB and fire brigade came to its rescued.
We went for a lovely walk down to the harbour and into the town, it’s sad to see so many shops still closed.
Ayr on Saturday for a few days and a visit to eldest son and youngest granddaughter. It will be nice to get and give a hug 🤗 we know they are well, but seeing is better.
It’s been a cold 🥶 long winter and we are stir crazy 😜. So enough already! MoHo packed and off we went for 3 days in Dunbar just below Edinburgh.
Campsite is Thurston Manor Innerwick, Dunbar, Lothian, Scotland, EH42 1SA. We picked a fully serviced pitch on hard standing (they are never flat).
Great view of the sea 🌊 in the distance. The site has an indoor 🏊♀️ which was a fine size for this time of the year but expect it would be mobbed when schools are on holiday. There are a couple of bars, an arcade and a restaurant. Sorry we didn’t try the meals so can’t review. The toilet and shower 🚿 block are tired and cold, but we had the better pitch so had access to a far warmer and rather good shower 🧼 block. One shower had a double shower!!
Would we go back? Yes think we might (when schools in).
Sun ☀️ here in North east Scotland 🏴 so a night away in our MoHo’s with our friends.
Only an hour away to Culloden near Inverness to a nice quiet sight. We had a few hours sitting out in the sun befor having a nice meal in the Culloden Inn. A few gins to finish off a lovely night away.
Sun 🌞 still here this morning although it’s not exactly shorts and tee shirt weather it’s still nice.
